This a flavorful blend of beef, tomatoes, and spices has a couple extras that help give it an added depth of flavor. Cocoa powder and cinnamon are usually thought of as dessert ingredients, but here, they add a richness that you can’t quite put your finger on, but you know is good. A tiny bit goes a long way, so don’t try to add more flavor by adding more of either one.
Variations: Ground turkey or chicken is a good substitute for beef here. Instead of regular diced tomatoes, try a fire roasted variety for additional smokiness.
